Home Extensions FAQs in Bentleigh

How can an extension change your Bentleigh home?

A home extension can add useful living space or adapt an existing area to better suit your household. In Bentleigh, the work may include connecting a room to the new space and finishing the interior with plasterboard, painting, doors, trim and flooring. Athans Building Services can discuss the practical finishing tasks that suit your project.

What finishing work can follow an extension?

Once the extension structure is ready, interior finishing can include installing plasterboard, patching and painting walls, fitting internal doors and trim, and completing flooring. Skirting boards, shelving, cabinetry and minor repairs to adjoining areas may also be included. Athans Building Services focuses on careful preparation and quality finishes suited to the home.

Can a handyman fit new windows and doors?

Window and door installation may be part of an extension project, depending on its design and required approvals. The work needs to suit the opening and the plans for the home. Athans Building Services can discuss suitable finishing tasks, while structural changes and any work requiring a licensed trade should be handled by appropriately qualified professionals.

Do extension projects need licensed trades in Bentleigh?

Yes. Structural, electrical and plumbing work must be completed by appropriately licensed trades. A handyman may assist with suitable carpentry and interior finishing tasks, such as fitting skirting boards, shelving or cabinetry. Athans Building Services can clarify which parts of the finishing scope are suitable for its service and which need a licensed trade.

Why prepare adjoining rooms before extension work?

Preparing an existing room can help it connect neatly with the new space and support a consistent finish across both areas. Tasks may include minor repairs, patching walls and preparing surfaces for painting or flooring. Athans Building Services can assess the adjoining areas and discuss the finishing work needed for a tidy transition.

What flooring options suit a newly extended room?

The right flooring depends on how the new room will be used, the existing floor and the overall design. Matching or complementing the adjoining space can help create a more connected feel. Athans Building Services can discuss flooring as part of the interior finishing scope, with the final choice guided by the project plans and materials.
